Das Swing

Das Swing, is a large band playing a hybrid music heavily influenced by the Manouche style of Gypsy Swing which is associated with Django Reinhardt, Stephan Grappelli and The Hot Club of France. But it weaves in elements of Russian and Hungarian Gypsy music, Latin and Flamenco.

The band features three guitars, two violins, accordion, double bass, vocals, mandolin and drums. They take Russian, Hungarian and other Eastern European folk songs and give them a hot swing treatment. At the same time they play swing standards which they try and infuse a little gypsy passion. Add to this Latin and Flamenco elements and you get some idea as to the sound of the band.

The members Are Nigel Hope, double bass, Josh Dunn, Steve Gadd and Django Merope-Synge on nylon string guitars, Charles Zuber on drums, Mark Underwood on mandolin, Erin Collins on accordion and vocals and Marjorie Gadd and Miranda Wageman on fiddles. While Marjorie is well known to local audiences Miranda is a newcomer to Tassie.

Miranda is and expert on tango violin having studied this rare art in Argentina. She is also a fine jazz player.  Although the rich tradition of Argentinian tango music is new to most members of  Das Swing the group hopes to make this a feature of future performances.

The band plays both listening music and Dance music.
